Oversaw operations for three branches in the Western Region.  Managed total revenue of $9M, implemented business development strategies for growth in the market place and cultivated key pertinent relationships with customers.  Established a good reputation for the company by sponsoring golf tournaments and other activities.

Key Achievements:
  • Developed newly founded and struggling branch in 2011 to meeting/exceeding budgetary goals upon exit in 2013 by implementing sound labor management practices, attaining high volume projects and emphasizing profitability in pricing

General Manager - Oxnard, CA - 2008 - 2011
Oversaw operations for 3 divisions encompassing 2 collection companies and 1 transfer station/material recovery facility (MRF) within Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.  Managed $28M total revenue across Oxnard, Ventura, and Santa Barbara; leveraged business development and organic growth strategies to achieve significant improvements in volume handled per day.  Established the firm as a well-known organization in the community by sponsoring evening events, golf tournaments, and other activities.

Key Achievements:
  • Instituted productivity standards and required personnel to meet or exceed expectations, resulting in increased profitability and continuous improvement within the MRF.
  • Re-routed commercial business line to eliminate one route while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Enabled proactive preventative maintenance to equipment with strict schedules and outsourced larger jobs such as engine rebuilds and transmission repairs to take advantage of warranties.
  • Boosted diversion at Transfer Station from 2% to 8% with more efficiency dumping and hand-sorting processes; catapulted volume from 80 tons per day to 160 tons per day, requiring the addition of a second shift of labor to service the customer needs.
  • Dissolved discussions surrounding unionization among the labor force to improve overall labor relations between staff and management.
  • Reached profitability at the Ventura site for the first time in nine years by increasing revenue by $200K per year; exceeded 2010 fiscal budget projections for revenue by $300K at the Transfer Station/MRF.
Assistant General Manager - Humble, TX - 2005 - 2008
Supported functions for the General Manager and implemented initiatives across the $30M Residential Collections division; ensured other departmental leaders within sales, administration, operations, and maintenance reached goals and objectives established by the organization.  Challenged to enter an environment of turmoil based on unfair compensation and favoritism within the labor force; collaborated with attorneys to turn around division by requiring proper documentation, establishing fair compensation packages, and requiring accountability from all employees.

  • Led financial analysis and evaluation for business units to include building pro forma assessment for new business line.
  • Introduced 5-day work week for refuse and recycling personnel to minimize overtime costs and reduce fatigue.
Operations Manager - Arlington, TX - 2003 - 2005
Directed business functions for industrial, commercial, and residential units; led team of 8 operations supervisors to execute re-routing projects, orchestrate municipal start-up's, and achieve revenue targets.

Key Achievements:
  • Designed and implemented a plan within 0 days notice for the start-up services for the City of Mansfield, encompassing house counts, commercial customer listing, service requirements for each customer, route development, container delivery, and new driver hiring.  Ensured successful, smooth operations of new route from day one onward.
  • Forged a strong working relationship between operations management and maintenance staff where none had existed previously; united the two departments to achieve synergy across all operations.
  • Analyzed current productivity within the department and generated new standards to maximize output; enforced accountability for achieving targets and invigorated competition and motivation for success.

Championed the City of DeSoto project from conception to completion; led start-up, established business operations, and coordinated all three lines of business to achieve profitability.  Initiated several process improvements to increase productivity and customer service excellence, to include implementing new pay system and establishing roll-off innovative service.  Consulted with sales representatives for contractor sales contracts and installation services; provided experienced advice on pricing, regulations, and company guidelines.

  • Transferred new payment system for employees from hourly to route pay.
  • Improved roll-off services delivery from 24 hours to same-day service; increased sales for temporary roll-off by atracting more clients and reaching niche position in desirable waste removal market.
